STI Screening

Dodder Park Medical provides a Sexual Health service in an open, friendly and non-judgemental environment where your confidentiality is strictly maintained.

Why test?
The number of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) diagnosed in Ireland has increased considerably in recent years. STIs can cause significant health problems if left untreated. However, the majority of infections are curable and all are treatable. So tending to your sexual health need not be a daunting task.

I have no symptoms, do I need a screen?
The answer is yes, if you have ever had any sexual contact. Many STIs show no symptoms but can cause damage if left untreated. Also some infections can be transmitted even when condoms are used.

What’s involved?
A full sexual health screen includes tests for chlamydia and gonorrhoea and a blood test for HIV, syphillis, hepatitis B and hepatitis C. The screen also involves a genital examination to assess for warts, herpes, pubic lice, rash or unusual discharge.

Females can have a screen whether they are menstruating or not.
